A regular past time activity that is extremely common amongst uni students is grabbing a quick coffee just before uni starts, or even in between classes. This has become some what of a ritual for todays uni students as many of my fellow classmates cant go a single day without getting there caffeine kick.

From this i went on a coffee journey of my own, in attempt to uncover the best 3 cafe/coffee shops in Adelaide! here are my findings…

Karma and Crow Cafe

Karma and Crow Cafe is located at 251 Richmond road SA, and is one of the most secreted coffee spots going around. This cafe is extremely hipster in its design as it gives off an old rustic but modern feel with its choice of furniture and utensils.

Karma and Crow doesn’t only offer fantastic coffee, but they also have a section where you can brows through old vinyls and vintage clothing which is all available for purchase at a low price.

Karma and Crow is also known for doing an all day breakfast, which is good for those late risers who are craving a serve of pancakes or bacon an eggs. Furthermore, there menu is quite unique and extensive as they also specialise in fresh juices on tap! A perfect alternative if your not much of a coffee person. Be sure to check out there watermelon juice on there instagram page along with some of there other refreshing beverages.

This is defiantly one of my favourite spots to meet my mates and get my coffee fix before a big day of uni, as the overall vibe is super relaxed and the staff there are extremely friendly, making it one of my favourite cafes in Adelaide.

Just Down the Road

As the search for Adelaides best coffee spots continued, I found myself at the next location which is called “Just Down the Road” (JDTR) which ironically for me is literally just down the road from where i live. This is a relatively new coffee shop, located on the green hill road in the middle of a popular business district.

JDTR is extremely modern in its design with its glass window panels at the front, to the clean wooden varnish finishes on the furniture inside. This makes it a very comfortable meeting place where you can sit down and watch the cars go by on green hill road.

JDTR also specialise in “SANGAS” as they serve up a wide range of lunch and breakfast sandwiches. Just a warning however, as these aren’t your typical sandwiches, as these come in large portions, so it is advised that you order on a hungry stomach. My personal favourite is the honey soy chickenSANGA but I am excited to try them all.

This is simply a great spot to get a coffee as it is especially convenient for those students who study in the city as it is less then 5 minutes away.

Overall, i was happy with the quality of the coffee as-well as the service from the staff, ultimately leaving me with no choice but to put in the top 3 coffee spots in Adelaide.

Long Lost Friend

Last on our list is “Long Lost Friend” located at 523 Magill road, Magill. This is one of my favourite places to catch up with mates and get a coffee as it is extremely close to Uni SA’s Magill campus, hence making it much easier to commute to-and-fro.

If your heading there in the morning and are feeling a bit snakcish i suggest getting the “house pancakes”, which comes with Persian ferry floss, something i hadn’t seen before, but goes surprisingly well with a serve of three hotcakes.

The Par 3 golf course located in North Adelaide is a perfect activity to kill a bit of time whilst being active in the outdoors, whilst all being in walking distance from university’s in the city.

Par 3 on the Torrens, welcomes those of all ages and abilities, weather your an experienced golfer or just a beginner looking to have some fun with mates. This is a unique activity as it is rare that you get a full 18 hole golf course within the heart of the city.

This particular course offers Par 3s, with lengths between 56 metres to 140 metres, making it a quick an easy progression from hole to hole. Furthermore, Par 3 by the Torrens really caters for beginners as it offers players to tee off from flat and easy synthetic turf, whilst aiming towards lush green kikuku grass fairways.

My personal experience

Despite having a rusty swing and no golfing IQ whatsoever, i decided to check out this secluded golf course right in the heart of the city. So i proceeded to dig out my grandpa’s old clubs and put my skills to the test with one of my best mates. However if you don’t have clubs of your own its not a big deal as the store/shop allow for rental gear.

We were luckily enough to have chosen a nice sunny day, with little to no wind hence leaving us with no excuse not to be able to hit the ball. This made our golfing experience a-lot more enjoyable as we were able to make our way through the course at our own pace.

Instating this, our experience soon became heavily competitive as my friend and I were only within a few shots from each-other going in to the final 4 holes. This proved to be a good activity if you are into friendly competition, as you are provided with a score card to see how you are travelling.

As we finished the course, within approximately 2 hours, we returned to the store to grab an ice-cream and go for a walk along the Torrens. It was here where we you can go onto do other activities such as BBQbuoys where you cook up a feed whilst floating down the river, or you can even go on a guided tour around the Torrens on Segway’s, starting at the golf course.

Additional information

The course is open 7 days a week and opens at 7:30am. Bookings are recommended and they can be made 16 days in advance. I further recommend to wear relaxed clothing but still keep it neat. Furthermore, to summon your inner Tiger Woods, a glove can be worn for aesthetic purposes.

Par 3 at the Torrens, ranges in pricing depending weather you decide to do all 18 hole or only want to do 9. the Prices are as follows:

18 holes

con-session/child (under 18) = $13.50

Adult = $16.50

9 holes

con-session/child (under 18) = $11.50

Adult = $13.50

Overall I thought this was a great activity and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a bit of fun in an outdoor setting.

It is also perfect for those who study in the city campus’s as it is a 5 minute walk away, and has proven to be a good way to stretch your legs, relax reset and enjoy your time outside. It is also a great way to meet with friends and just hang out whilst being so close to the city.

I highly recommending having a swing of golf here at par 3 Adelaide as i will be sure to return in the near future.

Treeclimb Adelaide is Australia’s very first inner city Ariel adventure park, and is located right in the citys parklands!

Tree climb offers a range of different courses which aim to cater for all skill levels. the most common climb is the “Grand course” which consists of 47 elevated obstacles within 4 progressions, starting at green, blue, red and black, each colour getting more difficult as you go on.

Whilst making your way through the trees you will also experience multiple Zip-lines, a Tarzan swing and a trapeze.

But before navigating through the tree tops, the team at tree climb will assist you wth harnessing up and will provide you with some safety instructions to get you familiar with some of rules. some of the these are as follows:

1. no more then 3 people at a time on any given platform
2. only one person at a time on any given obstacle
3. remember to hook your carabina on at each obstacle

Tips to know before climbing

• Make sure to wear enclosed shoes as they are mandatory
• It is recommended to wear loosely fitted/comfortable clothing as you will be wearing a a harness which goes around your waist and abdomen. This might be a good time to break out the active wear.
• Get proactive and book online by using their website, linked below. Times fill up quite quickly there for the sooner the better.
• Make sure to have some spare change on you as you will be given a locker to store your valuables for a $1.
• You are able to take your own camera/phone up on the climb with you but it is at your own risk. I suggest bringing a phone pouch connected to a lanyard as it is quite difficult reaching for your pockets with your harness on.

My own experience

Continuing on from my roof-climb adventure at Adelaide oval, I hoped to expand upon my thrill seeking experience’s by taking on something a little more challenging. So i called up one of my mates and we made our way down to tree climb on a Friday afternoon after a busy week of uni. From here we were quickly greeted by one of the instructors, and soon after we began harnessing up whilst watching a safety video. despite my extreme fear of heights i was ready to take on the challenge and see what this unique experience had to offer.

From here we started on the green course (which is the easiest of the four), and were going through it quite quickly. some of the obstacles we had to overcome in this specific course included, walking over logs, crossing a rope bridge and finishing it off with a zip line ( see below).

As we continued to duck, weave and climb our way through the tree tops we finally made it to the black course, which is the hardest of the four courses. By this point we were both pretty tired and were giving it our all to finish the course with in the 2 hour time frame that is given. during this course we experienced a traverse rock wall, ring ropes (see image below) and one final zip line.

Overall Tree Climb Adelaide proved to be a fun yet challenging experienced, whilst proving to be a great progression from the Adelaide oval roof climb.
